How to Enable Human and Vehicle Detection with Push Notifications on Camius NVRs

Camius DVR and NVR recorders feature advanced AI detection that identifies humans, vehicles and other specific activities, reducing false alerts caused by ordinary motion. The most used function is Pedestrian & Vehicle Detection, but your recorder can also perform Face Detection, Line Crossing, Perimeter Intrusion, Sound, Object, License Plate Detection, Heat Map, and more.

This guide explains how to enable Human & Vehicle Detection, link it to recording and notification actions, and turn on push alerts in the Camius View mobile app. The steps apply to Camius IPVAULT NVRs and TRIVAULT the latest hybrid DVR models. The below pictures are based on the recorder’s user interface when it’s connected to a monitor via HDMI or VGA video output and its web client.

Step 1: Enable Pedestrian & Vehicle Detection on the Recorder

Accessing the Detection Setup

  • Open the recorder interface (local HDMI/VGA or web).
  • Go to Menu → AI → Detection Setup → Pedestrian & Vehicle Detection.

Configuring Region, Target Type, Sensitivity & Schedule

  • Switch ON to activate detection.
  • Click Setup to draw the detection region.
  • Under Target Type, select Pedestrian, Vehicle, or both.
  • Adjust Sensitivity (1 to 5).
  • Click Schedule to define active time ranges.
  • Click Apply.

Step 2: Link Detection to Alarm/Record Actions

AI Alarm Settings Menu

  • Open Menu → AI → AI Alarm Settings → Pedestrian & Vehicle.

Selecting the Response Actions

Enable one or more of the following for each channel:

  • Record Channel – start recording when an AI event occurs.
  • Event Push Platform – send push notifications to mobile devices.
  • Buzzer – trigger the recorder’s internal alarm.
  • Alarm Out – activate external siren or strobe.
  • Email Alert, FTP Upload, or Cloud Upload – send snapshots.
  • Post Recording – define how long to continue recording after the event.
  • Click Apply to save.

Compatibility

Smart Motion Detection (SMD), found under Motion Detection settings, and certain AI functions cannot be enabled simultaneously.
This restriction is enforced in the NVR interface to prevent conflicts between AI-powered features.
For example, enabling Face Detection will automatically gray out the Pedestrian and Vehicle checkboxes.
If you attempt to activate a conflicting feature, a prompt will appear asking you to disable the current mode before enabling another.

Step 3: Enable Push Notifications in the Camius View App

Setting Up Notifications

  • Open the Camius View app on your iOS or Android device.
  • Go to Menu → Push Notifications → Setup.
  • Toggle your DVR or NVR device to ON.
  • Tap the gear icon next to the device, open Subscribe, and check Pedestrian Detection and/or Vehicle Detection for the desired channels.
  • Tap Save.

Testing Push Alerts

  • Walk in front of a camera or drive a vehicle through the defined detection area.
  • A push notification labeled “Pedestrian Detection” or “Vehicle Detection” should appear on your phone.
  • Verify that the event is visible in the app’s alert list and that video playback is available.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are AI settings identical on DVRs and NVRs?

Yes. Camius recorders share identical menu paths for AI Detection and AI Alarm Settings.

Why are some AI options unavailable (grayed out)?

Certain AI functions disable others to avoid conflicts. For example, enabling Face Detection automatically disables Pedestrian & Vehicle Detection. Also if the camera doesn’t support the feature, it won’t show up under the function.

Will alerts work without an Internet connection?

Local AI recording continues normally. Push alerts resume once the recorder reconnects to the Internet.

How can I search for AI event video clips?

Open Menu → Playback → AI Playback, choose the channel and detection type (for example, Pedestrian & Vehicle), set the time range, and click Search. You’ll see event thumbnails; double-click any thumbnail to play the recorded clip.
