DVR Menu Keeps Closing? How to Stop Automatic Menu Logout
The DVR menu closes by itself after a short time with no mouse movement. When this happens, settings may not save and changes are lost.
How to keep the DVR menu open while changing settings
Make sure the DVR or NVR is connected to the TV or monitor using HDMI and you are using a USB mouseÂ
- Move the mouse and left click on the screen.
- When the login screen appears, enter your password or draw the lock pattern.
- After logging in, open Setup.
- Open System.
- Open General.
- Find Menu Timeouts.
- Set Menu Timeouts to Off to keep the menu open, or choose a longer time if needed.
- Click Apply to save the setting. Leaving the menu without clicking Apply will not save changes.
From here, you can change the menu timeout value and save the setting.
Setting Menu Timeouts to OFF keeps the DVR menu open and temporarily disables password protection while the menu is active. This applies only to the DVR screen when using an HDMI monitor and mouse.
Web Session Timeout for Browser Access
Web Session Timeout controls how long the DVR allows an idle web connection when accessed through a web browser.
To adjust Web Session Timeout:
- Log in to the DVR using a web browser.
- Go to Remote Setting.
- Open System.
- Open General.
- Find Web Session Timeout.
- Enter a value between 5 and 1440 minutes.
- Click Apply.
Preview Session Timeout controls whether the web session also closes when the live view page is idle.
- If Preview Session Timeout is enabled, the web session will close when live view is idle.
- If Preview Session Timeout is disabled, the timeout mainly applies to settings pages.
Even when Web Session Timeout is set to a high value, web browsers may still log out after a short period of inactivity.
This happens because web browsers enforce their own security time limits.
The security camera recorder cannot override browser security behavior.
Web browser logout behavior
Web browsers close the login session after some time. This happens even if Menu Timeouts (Menu Time Out) is changed. This behavior comes from the web browser and is used for security. It is normal and does not mean the DVR settings are wrong.
To make logging in easier, a password manager helps. Tools like LastPass or Bitwarden store the IP address, username, and password and fill them in again after the browser logs out.
Another option is using the VMS PRO software on a desktop computer. The DVR can be added using the P2P ID. Inside the VMS, you can open Remote Setting and adjust system options without the browser session closing. Please follow the guide for adding the DVR to the VMS Pro software.
